In case you need a better reason to attend a benefit festival supporting the Maple Valley food bank, VanFest is back again for it’s 6th year with another super stacked lineup on August 20th.
During this special episode, we commemorate the 30th anniversary of 1986's animated classic, Transformers: The Movie by playing the equally classic soundtrack album in its entirety.
This is a podcast presetation that originally aired on August 8th, 2016 on 89.9 KGRG-FM during my radio show, Mike and Micki After Dark.
During the instrumental songs on the soundtrack, I explain to my guests, News Baron Corbin, Cool Guy Luke, Intern Tiny Ricky, and The Micki Special (like the Transformers, we all have cool names!) why this movie is so special to me and why it continues to be so infulential.
Listen to Mike and Micki After Dark LIVE every Monday night from 9-Midnight (PST) on 89.9 KGRG-FM. Check out our ON DEMAND page on KGRG's website for all of your MMAD needs.
Radio Personality @Petetorious interviews national touring Cali Reggae band, "Through The Roots"!
On KGRG FM, we play mostly rock that is current with today's taste. But when there's a band out there that isn't getting the shine they deserve, we like to promote up and coming talent no matter what the genre of music. That's where we discovered the Cali Reggae band Through The Roots!
Through The Roots is a nationally touring reggae band who have brought a new Cali/Hawaii sound to the reggae scene. They're opening for Rebelution on their Falling Into Place Summer Tour which they'll be playing at Marymoor Amphitheater Friday Aug. 5th. With band mates of different musical background such as Jazz, gospel, hip hop and rock, they're in a category of their own when it comes to new reggae.
I got a chance to interview lead vocalist Evan Hawkins in which we discuss:
- How it works having band mates with different backgrounds of music
- Evan's dad playing guitar for Marvin Gaye and what he did when Marvin passed away (you won't believe what he decided to do after!)
- The Evolution of Through The Roots going from a ska sound to slow reggae and much more!
I had a blast talking with Evan and i hope you guys enjoy it too! If you haven't heard of this band before, skip to 19:50 to hear the song "Miss Lovely"! Lastly be sure to follow @ThroughTheRoots on Twitter and Instagram !! Embrace and enjoy!!!
Mike talks to Kyle Stevens from local band and pioneers of Nerd Rock, Kirby Krackle about their upcoming show on Tuesday, August 16th at The Sunset, where they will be performing fan-favorite album E for Everyone in its entirety for the first time.
Kyle also shares stories about how the album came together and some of his favorite memories from making that record.
