5.3 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Off Southern California Coast

A 5.3 magnitude earthquake has hit 35 miles southwest of Channel Islands, Beach, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The USGS says the quake occurred at 12:29 p.m. about 38 miles (61 kilometers) southwest of the mainland city of Ventura. The quake affected parts of South California including the Los Angeles area. Many people who felt the quake reacted to the sudden movement on Twitter, though no immediate damage or injuries were reported.
