Pop the Cork: Cork Pumps the Brakes

For those who don’t know (because I don’t talk about my day to day life too often The Buzz), Ol’ Cork has his plate pretty full: Assistant Program Director of KGRG, two part time jobs, and The Buzz live three days a week with all the behind the scenes work that goes into making the show run to top it all off. I’m not here to try and start a “Who Works More?” contest or humble-brag about how much I do, but I am here to tell you to take a day off and treat yourself. I went on vacation in the middle of July to South Carolina and had a blast taking in the scenery with my family I haven’t seen in years. It was also the only time I had taken any sort of extended time off from all of my responsibilities in well over a year. When I got back from my vacation I realized where the term “breath of fresh air” comes from; if you don’t take a break every now and then you could end up drowning in all the things you have to take care of. Since then I made sure that at least once a month I find something I want to do just for me to help me reconnect with the things I love doing. This weekend just happened to be one of those times despite still having to work. I took one day off to participate in a gaming event that I lost horribly in, I picked up some of my favorite food to enjoy with my favorite recreational substances and my favorite people, and then proceeded to actually cook dinner (with my girlfriend’s supervision) the following night. Easily the best time that I’ve had in awhile. Careers, school, and family are all things that are extremely important and extremely stressful, but take some advice a guy who has probably developed a moderate case of insomnia trying to keep up with everything. Taking some time to enjoy the little things and reconnecting with yourself is probably the best thing you can do in the long run.
