THROUGH THE SANDS: A WRESTLING BLOG CH. 3

IGNORING OR IGNORANCE?

This past Saturday, the WWE held a Network only special titled Roadblock. I was going to recap the show and talk about where the path to Wrestlemania 32 was going……But much like the WWE showed on Raw on Monday, I’m going to pretend it didn’t happen. Brock Lesnar didn’t inexplicably destroy Luke Harper (After it was announced to be a handicap match with Harper teaming with Bray Wyatt to face the Beast Incarnate). Dean Ambrose didn’t have his foot under the rope when he pinned Triple H for the 3 count for the WWE World Heavyweight Title (Really….He didn’t….look at the footage). In the world of the WWE, that was a house show that got put on the Network.

The WWE is in one of the most unique, self-inflicted corners that I believe they’ve ever been in. I mean worse than having Diesel be champ for a year (Ask your parents kids). On Monday, the Dean Ambrose screwjob was met by Dean with “meh, I’m over it. Bring on Brock”. Although, I admittingly marked a bit when Mick Foley passed the torch….or barbed-wire bat…same difference. But the lack of interest in the title was not the thing that angered myself and most WWE fans on Mondays show. What got us all riled up as bad as Jericho yelling at a ref for not listening to the talent about a real injury was the fact that the headstrong plan to push Roman Reigns is going on as planned.

Let me say this right now. I do not hate Roman Reigns. Do I think he’s a top 5 talent? Far from it. But I want to cheer for the guy and I hope he succeeds. That being said, The WWE has ruined Roman Reigns. There is no going back now. This forced push that’s been in the making for about 2 years now has completely taken any care out of the fans.

3 weeks ago, Hunter demolished Reigns in what was supposed to garner sympathy for Roman. The beatdown was instead met with cheers for Hunter. This past Monday saw Roman returning for the first time since that beatdown to get his comeuppance…..only to be met with boos. But there was something different this time than has happened in the past with Roman. The boos weren’t that loud. And with the exception of the annoying 3 ladies near the camera….there were no cheers. The fans near silence while Roman beat the hell out of Trips was louder than Shane McMahons return pop. The fans have all but accepted that Roman will walk out of Dallas as a 3 time WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

The main problem with him walking out as champion is the fact that this will probably be the Main Event of the show. You can just hear the boos reigning down (pun very intended) as Roman looks as confused as he does in the pic on this blog. The way this Mania is being constructed, theres only one match that could go on last other than the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match. But I’ll get to that match next week.

Let me know in the comments on Facebook or tweet at me @DaveBuzzKGRG if I’m being too critical of Roman, not critical enough or just right. Are you excited for this years Mania? What would you do different?
